America Found: Book Talk
A Journey From Division to Connection

Come With Me!
An evening with documentary photographer David Robert Farmerie
For six years, photojournalist and storyteller David Robert Farmerie traveled more than 350,000 miles across the United States, sitting down with Americans from vastly different communities, backgrounds, and political perspectives.
He set out with a simple question: Are we really as divided as we have been led to believe?
What began as a search for answers became an extraordinary journey into the lives of ordinary Americans—and ultimately became America Found: A Journey From Division to Connection.
In this intimate and engaging book talk, Farmerie shares the stories behind the photographs and the conversations that shaped the book. He takes audiences beyond the finished images and into the moments when he put down the camera, sat across from a stranger, and simply listened.
The people he encountered were sometimes angry, sometimes wounded, sometimes hopeful—and often nothing like the labels that had been assigned to them.
Through photographs, personal stories, and reflections from the road, Farmerie reveals an America that is more complicated and more human than the political narratives that so often define it.
But America Found is not ultimately a book about division.
It is about what can happen when we cross the distance between us, listen without judgment, and discover the humanity we share.
The journey was long. The road was rarely straight. And along the way, Farmerie discovered something he wasn't necessarily looking for:
America was still there to be found.
“What happens when you stop looking at America through the lens of the news—and simply go see it for yourself?
For six years I traveled across America, asking questions, listening to strangers, and photographing the people I encountered along the way.
Now I'd like to take you with me.”
